This spring, English singer-songwriter Bruno Major came out with his first new material since dropping his 2020 effort, To Let a Good Thing Die. The single, “We Were Never Really Friends,” is a timely release considering that the acclaimed performer is setting out on a massive world tour. The single has amassed approximately one million streams on Spotify in less than a week. The song, written by Major and his collaborators, Finlay Robson and Dan Mcdougall, showcases a soft piano ballad in the beginning and eventually busts into a ‘60s style pop song reminiscent of The Beatles. The song also possesses some modern influences, coupled with dueling guitar solos and powerful lyrics; we believe that Major has just got himself another hit. In a statement, Major explains that the song “paints a picture of the blurry line between friends and lovers.” He continues, "Ostensibly lamenting the loss of a good friend until the ultimate realization arrives that it was always something more.”

Bruno Major promises that there is more new material to come out this year, which has fans speculating that a new record is in the works. Three years ago, Major released his 2020 effort, To Let a Good Thing Die. The album spawned the massive hits “Nothing” and “The Most Beautiful Thing.” Both songs have garnered over 100 million listens across streaming platforms. The North London native is known for his passionate, honest lyrics and soulful vocals. Born in 1988, he got an early start in music and used it as a way to relieve stress. By his early 20s, Major had penned several songs and continued to develop his music style.

In 2014, Major released his debut live album, which was simply titled Live. The record contains four live recordings of “Home,” “Bad Religion,” “The First Thing You See,” and “Old Fashioned.” Two years later, Major penned and produced several songs for singers Live Dawson and SG Lewis. The following year, he wrote and produced more music for several more renowned artists, such as Jack Vallier, Sarah Close, Eliza, XamVolo, and Chaplin. That same year, he released his debut album, A Song for Every Moon, which contains mega-hits “Easily” and “Places We Won’t Walk.”

By 2020, Major has dropped his latest album, To Let a Good Thing Die. The album also features the track “The Most Beautiful Thing,” co-written by Billy Eilish’s producer and brother Finneas. It would take three years before he came out with a new single. Luckily, it is now 2023, and new and exciting things are coming for Bruno Major fans. If you want to catch his new music live, you better hurry and score tickets to his show at the Wiltern this September!
