"Look to the East, Look to the West," Camera Obscura's first album in nearly a decade has just been announced! It will be released on May 3rd via Merge Records. The seasoned Scottish indie pop performers have also revealed the lead single, "Big Love," and planned a North American tour for 2024.

Lead song "Big Love" is a prog rock and country-inspired breakup anthem, featuring pedal steel accompaniment by Tim Davidson. Campbell sings on the song on the all too common desire to go back in time. “‘Big Love’ is our tribute to Waylon Jennings, with a nod to Sandy Denny and prog rock band Scope,” Campbell said in a press statement. “It’s a song about not looking back, having faith in the present and future.”

For the recording of Look to the East, Look to the West, Camera Obscura, led by guitarist/vocalist Tracyanne Campbell, reconnected with former producer Jari Haapalainen (Let's Get Out of This Country, My Maudlin Career). The band had taken a break after founding keyboardist Carey Lander passed away in 2015, but they got back together for two warm-up gigs in Glasgow and Belle & Sebastian's 2019 Boaty Weekender trip.

For those performances, Donna Maciocia joined Camera Obscura as a keyboardist and vocalist. Since then, she has often collaborated on songs with Campbell and the band's founding members, Kenny McKeeve (guitar and vocals), Gavin Dunbar (bass), and Lee Thomson (drums and percussion).

Camera Obscura has planned a run of North American tour dates in support of Look to the East, Look to the West. It begins in Philadelphia on May 29 and travels to Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin, and Washington, DC before concluding at Webster Hall in New York City on June 20.
