Formed in 2009, the Ohio-rooted American rock band Citizen just announced a special headlining tour, celebrating a decade since the release of their debut album "Youth". The DECADE OF YOUTH anniversary shows will be joined by special guest Fiddlehead opening every show. The band will be performing their debut record in its entirety, live on stage at The Wiltern on Saturday, 24th of June 2023. "Youth" includes the band's classics and fan favorites such as "Roam the Room", "The Summer", and "Your Head Got Misplaced". Formed by Mat Kerekes in 2009, Citizen's current lineup is joined by Nick and Eric Hamm on lead guitar and bass respectively. The band has four studio records, namely "Youth", "Everybody Is Going to Heaven", "As You Please", and "Life in Your Glass World". As part of emo's fourth wave, Citizen became showstoppers in the emo, alt-rock, and post-hardcore scenes.
The band's debut album "Youth" was released back on June 11th of 2013. Described as a "coming of age record" by Nick Hamm, Youth received generally positive reviews for its emo vibes infused with grunge and hardcore undertones. The album is noted for its role as "emo for a new generation", Brooklyn Vegan noted.
Pitchfork has described the band as "a band their fans can grow up with rather than out of", in their review of Citizen's 2017 album "As You Please".
As Youth turns ten, Citizen is throwing a four-night celebration, staging its finale at The Wiltern on June 24th. DECADE OF YOUTH will serve the album in its entirety, live on stage.
