Cory Wong has taken the jazz world by storm with his instrumental albums. The multi-instrumentalist who has mastered guitar and bass has released 11 highly-acclaimed solo studio albums, three of which entered the Billboard jazz charts. Apart from his solo works, Wong has recorded and released albums with jazz superband The Fearless Flyers, as well as collaboration albums with renowned artists, such as Jon Batiste, Dave Koz, and the Dirty Loops. During the pandemic, Wong made himself busy working with Dave Koz, the Dirty Loops, and the Fearless Flyers, resulting in several collaboration album releases from 2020 to 2022. In 2021, his work with Batiste, titled Meditations, earned Wong a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Age Album. The same year, guitar manufacturer Fender released a Cory Wong signature model Stratocaster.
Over the years, Cory Wong has cultivated a loyal niche following, despite not being a prominent figure in the mainstream scene. He is, however, a respected and admired personality among jazz and guitar enthusiasts. Wong’s guitar prowess has also made him one of the most in-demand session guitarists in the country. He has performed with Ben Rector, Bryan White, Dave Barnes, Chris Thile, and Brandon Heath. He has also performed with Stay Human, the house band for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
