Kamelot at The Wiltern

During the early ‘90s, Kamelot took over the music scene with their melodic but powerful heavy metal staples. In a world filled with burgeoning metalcore and nu-metal bands, Kamelot offered listeners an entirely different experience. The band had incredible musicianship and was as heavy as their New Wave of American Heavy Metal counterparts. But they set themselves apart for their outstanding vocals performed by former Kamelot singer Roy Khan. The classically trained vocalist from Norway gave Kamelot the edge and amassed a niche following.

The band released their debut album, Eternity, in 1995. This independently released effort was the first of four albums to be distributed by Noise Records before it was taken over by Sanctuary Records. In 2001, Kamelot dropped their fifth studio album, Karma, which made a breakthrough on the German charts. The critically-acclaimed album notably spawned several Kamelot staples, such as the title track, “Forever,” and the fan favorite, “Temples of Gold.”

In 2003, the band released Epica, which became a hit on the international charts. The album received wide critical acclaim, with music journalists calling it one of the greatest power metal albums of all time. Epica was the band’s first concept album with a plot and characters involving a scientist, philosopher, fallen angel, and maiden. Two years later, Kamelot continued the story with their follow-up album, The Black Halo, which spawned several symphonic metal hits, “The Haunting (Somewhere in Time)” and “‘March of Mephisto.”

In 2012, the band released their first effort after the departure of singer Roy Khan. Their tenth studio album, Silverthorn, was their first record to feature Swedish singer Tommy Karevik, who’s known for his work with the progressive metal band Seventh Wonder. The album entered four U.S. Billboard charts, including the Billboard 200 and Top Hard Rock Albums.

This 2023, the band is currently promoting their latest album, The Awakening. The record was the band’s first studio effort in five years. Led by singles, One More Flag in the Ground,” “Opus of the Night (Ghost Requiem),” and “Eventide,” the album entered the charts in nine countries.
