The Wiltern | Los Angeles, California
SNL’s up-and-coming Please Don’t Destroy sketch group is about to land the finishing blow on its first-ever tour at The Wiltern this coming September 21! Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy embarked on their summer trip last June, with over two dozen performances marked throughout the United States. Showcasing the troupe’s unique style, the special promises a rambunctiously funny night of their patented blend of surrealism, absurdity, and a little pinch of edginess. Please Don’t Destroy is widely known for its pre-recorded skits and segments on Saturday Night Live, from “Lizzo Has Writer's Block” to "Hangxiety'' to the viral “Three Sad Virgins” collab with Taylor Swift. As for our venue in Los Angeles, California, crowds can experience the hilarity in mind-blowing emphasis thanks to The Wiltern’s stellar stage and art-deco interiors. It’s been one looooong ride, but these three comical cowboys aren’t galloping off to the sunset just yet. For one final jaunt, Please Don’t Destroy will hit The Wiltern on September 21 to conclude their first-ever headlining comedy tour!
“The comic devices that work best for Please Don’t Destroy on SNL continue to be their strengths on stage. Their original songs are crowd-pleasing no-doubters. Occasional pops of video on a screen behind them worked as comic exclamation points. ”
Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy are currently on board a series of 25 live shows across North America, with a performance slated at the cultural center of Los Angeles, California. The Wiltern theater, featuring a brilliant indoor stage and intimate art-deco atmosphere, will serve as the venue for this raucous exhibition of skits and antics.
Saturday Night Live writing room regulars since 2021, the Please Don’t Destroy trio steals mainstream attention through hilariously innovative segments, which include classics like “Three Sad Virgins,” “Molly Shannon 2K23,” and “Hard Seltzer.” They’ve collaborated with many A-listers and superstars–Taylor Swift, Rami Malek, Jenna Ortega, etc.–and with a full-length feature film on the way, these young comics are sure to usher in a new era of rib-tickling American comedy.
Curious how their style translates live? Well, they can’t use their usual fast cuts and edits, but the surrealism and absurdity? Heaps and bucket loads, with plenty of audience participation to boot! All the creative juices that flow on-screen flow on stage, so expect Please Don’t Destroy’s trademark off-the-wall hysterics, hijinx, and wackiness!
“It’s kind of like a hybrid of stand-up and sketch. It starts out presentational, and we talk to the audience and interact with people. But then we’ll be like, “Okay, now we do a sketch.” So it’s fun. It feels like our ideal show is like giving the audience the feeling like they are part of our friend group and got to watch us hang out and do bits for an hour,” Ben Marshall described in an interview last July.
