Switchfoot at The Wiltern

Known for meaningful songs that explore the theme of personal struggles, social issues, and spirituality, Switchfoot is one of the bands that gained popularity in the Christian music genre. Thanks to their creative mix of alternative rock, pop rock, and post-grunge influences, the band is among the few that put Christian rock in the mainstream.

The band was formed in 1996 by Jon Foreman as the lead vocalist and guitarist, Tim Foreman as bassist and backing vocals, and Chad Butler as the drummer. Over the years, Switchfoot was able to add several members to the band, including Jerome Fontamillas and Drew Shirley.

Switchfoot's debut album, "The Legend of Chin," was released in 1997. The melodic modern rock style of the 11-track album introduced the band's promising talent to the world. Although it wasn't the breakthrough they were looking for, the Jon Foreman-led band penetrated the limelight, releasing two other albums in 1999 and 2000: "New Way to be Human" and "Learning to Breathe." Both albums were a success, but it was their fourth studio album, released in 2003, that catapulted the band into massive stardom. Named "The Beautiful Letdown," the 11-track album signaled the band's departure from their previous sound, gearing towards a more polished, mainstream sound.

Spawning several hits like "Dare You To Move," "Meant to Live," and "This Is Your Life," the album was a critical and commercial success. It reached platinum certification in the United States alone. It peaked at number 1 in the US Christian Albums and #16 in the US Billboard 200. The album also garnered several awards and nominations from different award-giving bodies, including "Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year" in the 35th GMA Dove Awards. Indeed, the album is the career-defining album for the band.

After the massive success of "The Beautiful Letdown," Switchfoot went on to release nine successful albums in their career. The latest of which is their 2022 Christmas album dubbed "This is Our Christmas Album."

This year, the band is going back on the road for the 20th-anniversary tour of their most memorable album. "The Beautiful Letdown" was released two decades ago, and it is an important feat to be celebrated. The tour will kick off this summer and is scheduled to stop at some of the major venues in the country. Catch the "Meant To Live" hitmakers this November 12 at Los Angeles's The Wiltern.
