Thrice is a rock band that emerged from Irvine, California, in 1999. During its early days, the band was a purveyor of post-hardcore music. The band, led by frontman Dustin Kensrue and guitarist Teppei Teranishi, continuously evolved, with their later records having a more experimental rock sound. The band released their debut album, Identity Crisis, in 2000, followed by their sophomore effort, The Illusion of Safety. In 2003, Thrice released their breakthrough record, The Artist in the Ambulance, which peaked at number 16 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the Internet Albums chart. The album contains hard rock and heavy metal influences paired with post-hardcore vocals. Critics praised the album as the “perfect evolution of Thrice’s past material” and that its musicianship “is on a high level.” The Artist in the Ambulance featured the lead single, “All That’s Left,” which entered the Alternative Airplay and Mainstream Rock charts. Thrice embarked on a headlining tour to promote the album and made several appearances at major festivals, including the Reading and Leeds Festival and the Warped Tour.
